3 steps to change:
Although there are many different paths leading to change, Wendy believes that there are three basic principles behind making lasting changes in the subconscious mind:
1. Awareness 2. Release 3. Visualisation.
1. Awareness of the thought process that triggers the emotional response and resulting behaviour. Becoming aware of what is actually happening in the mind is the first stage to being able to stop the programmed behaviour.
2. Safe release of any stored emotions that are attached to the unwanted behaviour or habit. This will often release the need for the old behaviour or thought pattern, allowing the new habit to be put in place.
3. Vivid visualisation of the future at a time when the change has been achieved. When someone visualises something with feeling, it can alter their emotional and even physical state. The more realistic the goal is to the subconscious mind, the more likely it is to be achieved.
Subconscious Mind:
The subconscious mind is like a really big computer. It is responsible for about 95% of your beliefs, feeling and actions. It also controls the functions of your body, like heartbeat and breathing so that your conscious mind, which operates on about 5% power throughout each day, is free to focus on other activities like doing tasks and being creative.
Most of our subconscious programming comes from childhood and this is because up to about the age of six, our brains are not fully conscious. For the most part, we are simply downloading information from our environment - from our parents, our friends and teachers. The rest of our programming comes from repeated experiences or big events that get stored in the subconscious mind.
Because our subconscious programming is responsible for our behaviours and beliefs you need to gain access it to make lasting changes. This is where holistics therapies can help.
Imagine you want to do something on the computer, like write a letter. You ask it to open the file so you can begin writing but it doesn't respond, so you then start arguing with it and shouting at it for not doing what you have asked. It still doesn't work and you feel really annoyed by this stupid machine that can't do one simple thing. However, as you are probably aware, it is not the computer's fault and it's not your fault either. The computer needs you to press the right buttons in the right order for it to be able to do what you want and you need the right instructions to tell you which buttons to press.
